The evolution of education through technology was Topic A at the Microsoft Government Leaders Forum, which took place in Scotland at the beginning of 2007. Teachers and techies agree that distance learning will continue to grow as technology develops, and that online classes will make education attainable to many more students.

Distance Education Takes Off

The widespread availability of technology will be necessary for distance learning to truly take off, according to participants of the Forum. In an effort to increase the availability of distance education options and online classes, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced that his company will expand its Innovative Schools program into the United Kingdom and 11 other countries.

The Future of Education

"Liberating technology makes it possible to say every person can and should enjoy the advantage of education," said Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in an interview with CNET News.

At the forum, Gates talked about the future of education, including online classes. He predicted that the benefits of online learning will continue to spread throughout the education sector. For instance, distance learning allows students to access lectures online. It also makes it easy to hold class discussions and forums, whether students are in the same room or thousands of miles apart. Testing, accreditation, and certification are all possibilities with online class and distance education.

Taking Advantage of Online Class

If you wish to further your education or gain a degree, perhaps you should consider taking advantage of the growing popularity of online classes. Check out distance education programs to find one that offers a focus that you find appealing.
