Literacy & Reading Degree & Programs

  <300x250>

In the past decade, the U.S. has renewed efforts to improve literacy in elementary, middle, and high schools. Across the country, student performance has dropped on tests for reading comprehension and other literacy skills. We need more professionals specially trained to deal with the challenges of reading education.

Reading Specialists and Curriculum Development

Master's degree programs will teach you the fundamentals of reading education, from phonics to holistic reading strategies. They may also provide you with an administrative education, so you can create individual education programs for remedial learners. Curriculum development is another career path for the literacy specialist. Curriculum coordinators typically design programs that can be implemented by classroom teachers and support staff. PhD programs are also available.
