More and more students view higher education as a stepping stone to upward mobility--and the higher education industry is growing to meet the demand. Most colleges and universities are offering new programs and more online courses in an effort to meet the needs of nontraditional students. This change has created new roles and opportunities for higher education administrators and faculty.

 

Career Training in Higher Education

Most degree programs in higher education are available only at the graduate level. Master's degree programs traditionally focus on a particular aspect of administration, with coursework in finance and technology as well as curriculum and instruction. PhD programs can prepare students to lead colleges and universities by teaching them about the best methods to enhance student and faculty performance. Faculty and administrators at community colleges often have master's degrees in higher education, while those at most major colleges and universities usually need a PhD.
